Welcoming Our 2025/2026 Articling Students: Sawyer Senekal and Sean Janke

At Ogilvie, our people are at the heart of everything we do, and each year we look forward to welcoming new articling students who bring fresh energy, perspectives, and passion to the practice of law. This year, we are thrilled to introduce Sawyer Senekal and Sean Janke as our 2025/2026 articling students. Both bring unique experiences and a genuine commitment to their future clients, and we could not be more excited to have them join our team.

Meet Sawyer Senekal

Sawyer, who previously joined Ogilvie as a 1L summer student, is no stranger to our firm. Born in Edmonton, raised in Beaumont, Sawyer was drawn to law from a guiding sense of justice shaped by personal experiences. A business law course at MacEwan University further solidified her decision to pursue a legal career, inspiring her to follow this path.

Sawyer says choosing Ogilvie for her articles was an easy decision: “In two words: the people. From my very first week of law school, I met lawyers and students from Ogilvie who left a lasting impression — supportive, honest, friendly, and driven. During my 1L summer, I gained invaluable mentorship and hands-on legal experience, and I knew this was a place I wanted to return to.”

As she embarks on articling, Sawyer is eager to dive deeper into practice areas such as Wills and Estates, Real Estate, and Corporate/Commercial law. She is also looking forward to more opportunities to interact with clients and build the skills that will allow her to provide excellent service in the future.

When reflecting on her journey, Sawyer’s advice to future students is simple but powerful: “Believe in yourself. You deserve to be where you are. Surround yourself with a strong support network and always try your best, no matter the outcome.”

We are excited to have Sawyer back with us and look forward to seeing her continue to grow and thrive at Ogilvie.

Meet Sean Janke

Sean was born and raised in Edmonton but spent the past few years on the East Coast completing his law degree in Halifax. While he loved his time there, he is happy to be back home and beginning this next step of his legal career. For Sean, pursuing law was a long-time dream: “I have wanted to go to law school for as long as I can remember, and I feel very lucky and privileged to have been able to do so.”

Drawn to Ogilvie by the firm’s strong reputation and presence in the Edmonton community, Sean knew early on that this was where he wanted to article. “From networking with classmates and colleagues to meeting people at Ogilvie, it seemed like a no-brainer to apply. Ogilvie was my top choice, and I’m very happy to get started.”

Sean is especially excited about rotating through each department, learning more about the practice of law across different areas, and building meaningful connections with colleagues along the way. His advice for future students? “Enjoy your time in law school as much as possible. It’s stressful, but looking back, many of the challenges don’t feel as overwhelming as they did in the moment.”

We are delighted to welcome Sean to Ogilvie and can’t wait to see how he grows his skills and contributes to our team.

Looking Ahead

At Ogilvie, we take pride in the development of our students and the supportive culture that allows them to learn, contribute, and build confidence as future lawyers. Both Sawyer and Sean embody the curiosity, drive, and professionalism that we value at our firm.

We are excited to have them both on board and look forward to working alongside them as they embark on this important stage of their careers. Please join us in welcoming Sawyer Senekal and Sean Janke to Ogilvie!
