Ogilvie LLP is pleased to welcome Jon to the partnership in our Edmonton office.

Jon brings more than 26 years of experience practicing law in Alberta, having built his career at two major national firms. Over that time, he has developed a strong reputation in construction litigation, commercial litigation, and real estate litigation, working closely with owners, general contractors, and subcontractors.

He was drawn to litigation because of its intellectual challenge and the opportunity to build a claim or defense from the ground up. He also values the strategic nature of oral advocacy in both court and arbitration, where preparation and precision can make a meaningful difference for clients.

Jon points to several career highlights that reflect his practical and results focused approach. In one matter, he acted for a major Alberta contractor and successfully challenged the validity of a deficiency holdback clause, resulting in a multi million dollar payment to his client. In another, he represented an owner owed more than one million dollars by a negligent but insolvent contractor and secured recovery through the contractor’s insurer by relying on provisions of the Insurance Act.

He earned his law degree from the University of Alberta and has remained engaged in the community, including serving on the Board of Directors and as Vice President of the Edmonton Scottish United Soccer Club.

Jon was excited to join Ogilvie because of its strong Alberta focus and full service platform, which he sees as an excellent fit for his practice and his clients. He is particularly excited about the dynamic and innovative ideas currently being implemented at the firm.
