Welcome Our 2026/2027 Articling Students: Hassan Nasir and Jasreen K. Sekhon
Ogilvie LLP is pleased to welcome Hassan Nasir and Jasreen K. Sekhon as our 2026/2027 articling students. Over the coming year, they will gain hands-on experience working alongside our lawyers across a variety of practice areas while building the skills and knowledge that will shape the next stage of their legal careers.
We recently sat down with Hassan and Jasreen to learn more about what inspired them to pursue law, why they chose Ogilvie, and what they're looking forward to most during their articling term.
Meet Hassan
A lifelong Edmontonian, Hassan was drawn to law by a desire to help people navigate challenging situations while continually learning and growing throughout his career.
"I enjoy helping people navigate complex situations and making a meaningful difference in their lives," he says. "Law also appealed to me because it's a profession that requires continuous learning and growth. I wanted a career that would challenge me every day while encouraging me to keep developing both personally and professionally."
Hassan is returning to Ogilvie after spending the summer with the firm as a 1L Summer Student in 2024.
"I chose to return to Ogilvie because of the positive experience I had during my summer with the firm," he says. "I had the opportunity to get to know the lawyers and staff through both my work and firm events, and I really enjoyed the people I interacted with."
With a strong interest in litigation, Hassan was also drawn to Ogilvie's experienced litigation group.
"I was particularly interested in pursuing litigation, and Ogilvie's strong litigation department stood out as an excellent place to develop my skills. The relationships I formed during my summer experience made Ogilvie the clear choice for where I wanted to article."
During his articling year, Hassan is looking forward to building practical litigation experience while learning from the firm's experienced lawyers.
"I'm excited to work on a variety of files, see how legal strategies are developed, and continue developing my advocacy skills," he says. "I'm also looking forward to learning from the partners and other lawyers at the firm. Having the opportunity to observe how they work with clients, navigate challenging legal issues, and build successful practices is something I'm really excited about."
His advice to future law students is to embrace every opportunity available.
"Network as much as possible and get involved in the opportunities your law school offers, whether that's clubs, clinics, or other programs. It's also important to maintain hobbies outside of law to stay balanced. Finally, explore different areas of law, find what you're passionate about, and focus on building experience in that area."
Meet Jasreen
Born and raised in Edmonton, Jasreen never initially envisioned herself becoming a lawyer. That changed after volunteering at the courthouse, where she had the opportunity to observe the legal profession firsthand.
"I was fascinated by the work and the impact lawyers have on people's lives," she says. "I realized law was something I could genuinely see myself doing, and I have been excited about it ever since."
She jokes that the television series Suits may have also played a small role in sparking her interest.
When it came time to choose where to article, Ogilvie stood out because of its unique combination of sophisticated legal work and collaborative culture.
"What drew me to Ogilvie was the combination of big firm work with a small firm culture," Jasreen explains. "I always liked asking lawyers why they chose to stay at their firm, and the answer I heard over and over was, 'the people.' That really stuck with me. From my recruitment experience, Ogilvie felt exactly like that kind of place."
As she begins her articling year, Jasreen is eager to put her legal education into practice.
"I look forward to seeing everything I have learned in law school come to life," she says. "I'm excited to work on real files, learn from some amazing lawyers, and get to know everyone at the firm. I know there will be a lot to learn, and I'm beyond excited to take it all in."
For future law students and articling students, Jasreen offers simple but meaningful advice:
"Block out the noise and trust your gut. It's easy to compare yourself to others or feel like there's a 'right' way to get through law school, but your hard work and determination have already gotten you this far. Trust yourself and keep doing what has worked for you."
Welcome to the Team
We are excited to have Hassan and Jasreen join the Ogilvie team and look forward to supporting them throughout their articling journey. We know they will make valuable contributions to the firm while continuing to develop into exceptional lawyers.
Please join us in welcoming Hassan and Jasreen to Ogilvie LLP. We look forward to seeing all they accomplish during the year ahead.
